New York Wine Expo

Wines of Argentina recently requested that we join them in their display tent at the prestigious New York Wine Expo, and they’ve also asked us to participate in a showcased tasting that will take place there called “Argentina's Unparalleled Malbecs.” If you’re in town during the event (Feb 27th & 28th); stop by the Jacob Javits Center and come sample our wine. - Scott Mathis

Wines of Argentina

“Wines of Argentina” is a great organization whose website references many, if not all, of the notable wineries that can be found on the Argentine Wine Route (Ruta del Vino). (I’m glad ours begins with the letter “A”.) They recently organized the U.S. Master Sommelier event in Mendoza where our Cabernet Sauvignon scored high ratings and the “Best Buy” award over all the other wines which were scored. You may remember me mentioning all of this in an earlier post. For more detailed information about that event, you can check out our upcoming February newsletter here.

The Wines of Argentina website was recently updated to reflect changes in Algodon Wine Estates’ development, so if you have a moment, be sure to check their site out here. It’s clean, sleek, comprehensive, and a great advocacy website for all Argentine wineries! It’s also a must-see for anyone traveling to Mendoza because it’s so informative.

See you next week!

Polo Anyone?

It looks like the world of Argentine Polo is alive and well, despite any global economic slowdown, according to a recent Reuters article that you can read here. The article also touches on polo tourism and Argentina’s position as the world's top destination for polo. Our polo fields at Algodon Wine Estates, by the way, should be completely excavated and seeded this year.

This photo was taken at a recent cocktail party inside the Algodon Mansion amidst all the construction. There was a huge turnout, and it was quite fun. Nacho Figueras and his wife Delfina Blaquier are pictured here with me. Nacho, of course, is a world famous Argentine Polo player and may be the face that most Americans associate with Argentine Polo. The photo above appeared in the December 20, ’08 issue of the Argentine magazine “Noticias”.

More Media Mentions for Algodon!

Algodon Wine Estates had a nice mention in the December ’08 issue of Palm Springs Life in an aritcle called “Wine - Making It Personal (Dig in and taste the winemaker’s life)”. Click here to read the article. The article also mentions our wine barrel program and specificlly talks about other projects or developents that are similar to ours. The closing sentence of the article is great; “All of these options cost a lot less than the millions it takes to open a traditional winery. And…‘It’s fun.’”

We also get a fun Algodon Mansion mention in the January issue of Continental Airlines in-flight magazine. The December issue of the same magazine also features a great article by Ian Mount titled Capital Gains, which is very much worth the read- I highly recommend it.
