Algodon Ironworks

I received some photos of the new doors that have been custom designed for Algodon Mansion’s front façade. The ironwork is remarkable, and once the doors have been completely installed, the façade will be nearly complete and Algodon Mansion will be one of the most beautiful structures on Montevideo. That’s saying a lot, because it’s a very beautiful street to begin with. The two new doors are being placed in what were previously windows, which have now been extended to the ground for a symmetrical aesthetic on the ground floor/street level horizon. There will be three, in all, and the doors were designed to match the original ironwork door, which has also been restored to its former beauty. The following pictures show one of the newly installed doors from the interior’s point of view, and then a photo/rendering hybrid of the finished product from the exterior’s point of view. The top image is one we use frequently, and you may already be familiar with it. --Scott Mathis

Algodon Wine Estates online interactive map

Hello friends. As our websites continue to evolve in tandem with the properties, real estate developments, and businesses that they represent, we are on occasion treated to something truly exciting via online technology. Our new interactive map of the estate’s features and individual homesite descriptions is, in my opinion, a very impressive addition to the site. The system, which is powered by Google Maps technology, illustrates the estate’s geography and has all kinds of easy to use features that make it fun to navigate. If you haven’t seen it yet, you can check it out here.

I personally love Google Maps; you can visit almost any neighborhood in the world. I know the Google satellite mapping of Argentina was only recently added to its website, so the map of Algodon Mansion’s location in Buenos Aries, for example, offers only a basic view, which you can see here. However, I assume that Buenos Aires will eventually have a more detailed mapping, such as we have in New York City. Here’s a Google Maps link to our office in Manhattan. Enjoy!

New Wine Labels, New Media Articles

Our new wine label designs have been finalized, and they look great. We will be utilizing them on all of the wine bottles from now on. There is a significant difference between the new labels and our previous ones in that we have chosen to discontinue the “Viñas del Golf” name and design in the marketing of the wine, and strictly use the Algodon Wine Estates branding from here on out. The Viñas del Golf name and logo will still represent the resort itself, however we wanted to establish a clear and distinct difference in the marketing of our wine and winery.

There is a great article on WineSur.com regarding the surge in popularity and recognition of Argentine Bonarda; “2008 could be remembered as the year of the ‘re-discovery’ of Bonarda”. You can read the full article here: Bonarda: a new Malbec? While on the subject of WineSur, we’re also mentioned in a recent online article regarding Argentine wine tourism here: Wineries renew programs to attract tourism. Both articles are good reads, and the latter addresses the concern of 2009’s potential decline in tourism numbers, and our strategy to combat that possibility.

Happy New Year!

I hope everyone and your families had a great New Year’s Eve! 2009 is setting up to be a spectacular year already. Algodon Mansion is opening, we have new wines and labels, the opening of our 18 hole golf course, a future polo field…and the year has barely even started. Let's get busy, and stay busy! Happy New Year! By the way, I received an email from a colleague vacationing at Algodon Wine Estates over the holiday, which I’d like to include a passage from; “Scott, I am here in AWE – so beautiful! Today there were quite a few golfers, people eating in the restaurant, taking tours of the winery etc. I am doing the Ruta del Vino & checking out Mendoza tomorrow…” That was a good email to get, and a nice way to start the year. Have a great 2009! -Scott Mathis
